To: The Gender Mosaic Executive and Members of GM
Subject: The illegal motion put forward by Kelly 3 years ago.
When we last wrote on this item you told me to wait and you would rewrite the bylaws. Well, that’s been done. I have read the ‘new and improved’ bylaws a dozen times, now.
I cannot find the clause that says a single motion put forth by any member of the Executive is grounds to dismiss and a member, much less cancel a Life membership.
The now-numbered article 20 dictates the method to be used to remove a member.
This has NOT been followed, and GM has left the whole item to fester for 3 years, now, with the hope that the illegal motion would be forgotten.
What kind of Executives does GM have running it ?
The kind that is too cowardly to address an issue and find a resolution. I’m sure glad you’re not running my finances – nothing would be paid.
This letter and your response will be published on the front page of my web site so the world can see how GM runs.
So now you have the opportunity to show what GM is made of, make it a good one.
– Judy Kearns
Cynthia-Ray Has sent a response:
I just want to know when you will stop this. Do you blame everybody for
the actions in the past. You brought many of these on yourself, so please
stop this bombardment of negative comments
I have responded:
In a democratic society, when there wrong-doing is allaged, charges are laid, the defendant mounts a defence, the facts are presented to a group of their peers and there is a finding of guilty or not.
Gender Mosaic has not provided those rights to me. The then-executive didn’t even put the matter to the membership. Instead, there was a 5-minute executive meeting and the decision was stamped. In fact, I was never even notified of the event until nearly a year later, when I found out in an angry e-mail from the Kelly Ann, herself.
I will accept the removal of my Life Membership if the bylaws are followed. After all, they have just been re-written. Surely, the group follows them. As a corporation operating in Ontario, it is the law.
I will now answer your first question: Never. One cannot pick and choose the laws they want to obey and the ones they do not want to obey. Can you imagine what would happen at a Football or Hockey game if this kind of selective enforcement of regulations? That’s why they have referees. And society has due process.
GM executive committees, then and (apparently) now, operate independently of their bylaws for the benefit of the those in their midst who enjoy financial benefits from being in their positions.
Cynthia is the only member to respond to date. As in the former Soviet Union, she may well be risking sanctions or expulsion for doing so. Although, the current Executive seems much less draconian in its tactics than some previous ones.
Where are the Executive members? Hiding in their closets? That’s where I found them when I founded this group back in 1988.

To: The Gender Mosaic Executive and GM Members
Subject: Charges and Specifications
Kindly provide me with a copy of the Charges and Specifications used to support Kelly’s illegal motion to have my Life Membership removed.
The details must be really bad to warrant the dismissal of a Life Member, as there have only been two LMs in the 25 years of Gender Mosaic’s history.
But we are all adults here and I’m sure we can take a little pain.
This disclosure will also help the only existing Life Member to avoid the perils and pit falls.
Failure to comply with my request would demonstrate that there are no recorded charges or specifications, and makes the whole affair look like a cover-up to protect a former Executive’s poor judgment and actions.
Come on, now! That Executive is no longer in power. It’s time to get this matter out in the open and resolve it.
On July 12, 2013, ‘Something Wonderful Happened’.
There was a meeting of the first three Presidents of Gender Mosaic, the pioneers of the Transgender movement in Ottawa and Canada!
We met at Monkey Joe’s on Carling Ave.
At that time, we share a flavoured beer, had a white wine toast, enjoyed a meal and recounted the real beginnings of the transgender movement in Ottawa.
It was wonderful to be with my friends of 25 plus years, something the current members of Gender Mosaic (GM) will never get to enjoy.
You see, the current Gender Mosaic group does not encourage friendship. Its sole goal seems to be making money.
There was some talk of GM at our meeting, but the consensus was that the current GM is in a shambles and headed on downward on a slippery slope.
Joanne Law (1993-1998) was the third and fifth President of the group.
Joanne has been active with her new group Ottawa’s Freedom Center, headquartered at 265 Montreal Road Suite 4 (613-422-2294) ottawafreedomcenter.org. There is nothing else I can add on Joanne Law. Should you doubt me Try Googling her!
Teddy (1990-1992) was the second President of the group. Teddy served the group with honesty and an internally driven goal to keep the principles of friendship and help in the forefront, while moving forward with the cause.
Judy Kearns (1988-1990) – that’s me – was the first President – simply because someone had to do it. A couple of years ago, GenderMosaic’s Executive split with me because I was critical of the way they were running the group, and cancelled my lifetime membership in the group. Recently, they tried to out me using a YouTube video that included my name and photos.
Unless you want to risk receiving this kind of treatment, I recommend that you stay away from today’s Gender Mosaic!
But never fear! GenderFreedom.ca is here for you! GF is deeply involved with the R.O.H. and its trans-related programs. GF’s Transition Mentoring Program, spearheaded by our own Maggie James, continues to be a resounding success, helping dozens of trans and gender-questioning people every year make the right contacts in the Ottawa Region trans support community.
I trust that this meeting of the founders of gender freedom in Canada will become a yearly event. I know we’ll have a lot to talk about!

The Executive of Gender Mosaic is Happiest Breaking the Bylaws of the group
During the last General meeting a member pointed out an error in operations.
From the Gender Mosaic Web site:
Record of decision
Gender Mosaic General Meeting
November 10, 2012
The President called the meeting to order at 19:35
Quorum in attendance. (22 members)
Updating of Gender Mosaic by-laws.
Sophia Cassivi opened the General Meeting at 19:35.
Sophy Thomas immediately declared a point of order withholding the unanimous consent that the Executive had requested of GM members in order to hold a meeting to update by-laws with 25 days notice as opposed to the 35 days stipulated in the by-laws.
As by-laws committee chair, Janne Charbonneau suggested as an option to the members that the General Meeting itself was indeed within the 14 day required notice period and that the members could vote whether or not to proceed with the meeting as scheduled.
Sophy Thomas interjeeted and threatened legal action against Gender Mosaic if the assembly proceeded thus.
In keeping with the original notice sent to all members 25 days earlier, the President suggested to accept the withholding of unanimous consent by even a single person and postpone the item to the next General Meeting.
Motion to adjourn by Samantha Perrin. Seconded by Linda Slater.
Meeting adjourned at 20:30
NOTE: The Gender Mosaic Executive cannot wait for approval of the members to change the Bylaws and has already modified Article 2 changing the name from Gender Mosaic to Gender Mosaic Incorporated without the members consent .
This is what they used to read:
Article 2 Name of the Organization
2.1 The name of the organization shall be “Gender Mosaic”, herein after referred to as GM.
2.2 Gender Mosaic shall be a non-profit organization
This is what they read now:
Article 2 Name of the Organization
2.1 The legal name of the organization shall be Gender Mosaic Inc. / Mosaïque de Genres Inc., commonly referred to as GM, MG, Gender Mosaic or Mosaïque de Genres.
2.2 Gender Mosaic shall be a provincially incorporated not for profit corporation.
The original Bylaws had a Header at the top showing the date the bylaws where accepted by all the members; that has been removed as well.
I wonder what other things have been changed? I hold all the original information from the GM website and the bylaws as presented on the Gender Mosaic website have definitely been Altered & Tampered With! If the Membership approved this, I would like them to show in the record when the membership approved this change to the bylaws.
How can the membership Trust the Executive to update the groups Bylaws when they don’t know what they are and constantly ignore them when the fancy strikes them, or change them in a very back-door way and and hope no one notices?
I have been a victim of Gender Mosaic’s uncontrollable Executive.
Money Hungry, Power Mad, and headed for self destruction.
The current Executive should all be replaced with Rats because there are some things even Rats won’t do and this Executive seems to think it is above the Law.
With the 25 years of Help and Support in the balance, the GM Exec is willing to toss it all out to ensure that they get their “Cut”.
The Transgender Day of Remembrance was celebrated on November 20, 2012, by the Ottawa Police force, the Mayor and the Executive of Gender Mosaic.
At a ceremony held at the Ottawa police station.
The MetroNews organization published a photo of those involved as shown below, however it does not tell the whole story.
From left: Police Chief Charles Bordeleau, Mayor Jim Watson,
Gender Mosaic president Sophia Cassivi, Coun Eli EI-Chantiry,
Gender Mosaic second vice-president Amanda Ryan and

While they put on a good show the truth is they are the Ones Doing the Hurting.
Gender Mosaic has badgered members out of the group, harassed Lifetime members and even voided Lifetime Memberships – without due process, at the whim of a disgruntled Ex President.
In a recent statement, Group Founder Judy Kearns said, “I’m ashamed to have been such a large part of this group’s beginnings, looking at where it has gone”.
Kearns has been trying for some time now to have the Illegal motion put forth by the disgruntled Ex President reversed but the current Executive has refused, saying only that they will change the By-Laws.
Kearns has been talking to some members, although all members have been ordered by the Executive not to talk to her.
It appears some of the members are not happy with changes to the By-laws by Leadership that has and is shown such a disregard for them.
Kearns said, “I have had discussions with others who were unfairly treated by GM and a joint action is being considered.”
I’m in the process of creating a legal claim and blocking Gender Mosaic’s Incorporation on the grounds that they do not follow the By-Laws they have set forth.
Now, as Canadians try to have bill C-279 (a law to protect basic transgendered rights) passed to law, Canada’s Oldest Transgendered support group, Gender Mosiac, ignores their own Bylaws, already in place for 25 years.
I maintain that the action of the Executive voids their Bylaws completely. One can not choose which laws they will follow and which ones they will not.
Gender Mosaic is now without rules or regulations as the money-hungry Executive ( Amanda, Sophia ) rule without limits and insure there are no Mediators – just Dictators.
Where will this end? As with all Dictators, there will come a time when they are kicked out and Law and Order are restore. I look forward to that day!
Until then, Gender Mosaic will continue to put forth the face of a support group while hiding the real truth of it’s operation.
The president ( Sophia ) and second vice-President ( Amanda ) continue to make money from their Spring Fling venture using Gender Mosaic to fill their pockets while systematically destroying 25 years of constructive support and help.
“I do not want to go ahead with legal action. But if they are willing to break and ignore there own By-Laws, even taking it as far as banning the group’s founder for speaking out against them, then none of the members is safe from the wrath of the GM Executive,” Kearns warned.
